60x48 inches.
This is the third piece in the humanity series.
In the 19th century, Russian writer, Alexander Herzen wrote ‘the word humanity is repugnant....it expresses nothing definite . . . What sort of unit is understood by the word humanity?’ Whilst I like questioning humankind, I reject his conclusion. Instead, I uphold the view that humanity is an on-going process. Humans create it through day to day actions. As Ken Booth once wrote ‘What is humanity? It is too soon to say’. I published an article on this in 2016 and the artwork is part of that thinking.
Humanity is what humans make of it (completed September 2020)
